Therapeutic Action
Antituberculosis bacteriostatic
Indications
Drug-Resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB), in combination with other TB medicines
Drug-Sensitive tuberculosis (DS-TB)
Instructions for use
The 50 and 100 mg dispersible tablets are intended for paediatric use. To be dispersed in 10 ml of water.
The dispersible tablet should replace the normal 100 mg tablet (second choice).
Blister packaging is the packaging of choice for antituberculosis medicines, due to the instability of some of them when exposed to high temperatures and humidity.
Bulk packaging (hospital packs) should only be used in special circumstances or when the blister presentation is unexpectedly unavailable.
The quantity to be ordered is calculated per tablet, not per blister.
When ethambutol is used in association with other TB medicines, fixed-dose combinations (FDC) are available:
- E 275mg / H 75mg / Z 400mg / R 150mg, tab., blister
- E 275mg / H 75mg / R 150mg, tab., blister
Precautions for Use
Do not administer to patients with severe renal impairment or pre-existing optic neuritis (e.g., diabetic retinopathy).
